3D Fundamentals - 12 weeks

  • Final project in which the student goes through each phase of production
  • Satisfactory participation in the course, successful completion of the project and
        passing a practical and written test gives access to the 3D Digital Artist course.
  • 12 weeks course. 09:00 - 15:00 Monday to Friday

      What does the course offer?

      The course begins with intensive work consisting of both theory and practical application. The theoretical side provides the student with working knowledge of 3d max’s set-up, functions and possibilities. The practical side of the course gives the student hands-on experience with the 3ds max program’s techniques. The last weeks of the course are spent working on a final project in which the student goes through each phase of production from idea to finished product.

      Aspects of 3D covered in the course:

      • Interface (toolbar, the six command panels, modifiers, and more)
      • Modelling (spline, loft, mesh, poly, patch, surface, lathe, intro to nurbs)
      • Texturing (Material Editor, UVW map, procedural maps, intro to Photoshop)
      • Lighting
      • Particle systems, plus forces and deflector
      • Space warps (geometric deformable)
      • Atmospherics and other effects (atmospheric apparatus)
      • Dynamic (reactor) plug in
      • Video post (glow, lens flare,cut, fade, etc)
      • Animation (keyframe, controller, constraints)
      • Curve Editor

      • 3ds max 2009
      • Adobe Photoshop
      • Adobe Premiere

      What are the course objectives?

      To give the student a fundamental insight into 3D computer graphics and animation as well as the necessary competence to work independently and innovatively with 3D computer graphics and animation.
      The course is suitable for those interested in 3D computer graphics and animation, and those who require a solid skills base for use in a future career within 3D computer graphics and animation.

      What are the requirements?

      It is not necessary to have prior knowledge of 3D computer graphics and animation, or other computer graphic production, in order to begin taking the 3D Fundamentals course. However, it is necessary to have a basic computer/PC knowledge as well as a basic level of English (Primary and lower secondary school leaving examination or equivalent).
